Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
Pioneer Academy aims to provide a well-rounded, character-building education through challenging interdisciplinary curricula, stimulating extra-curricular activities and community involvement. We seek to instill a life-long passion for learning, a strong sense of moral responsibility, and a welcoming of diversity.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Knowledge
We believe that dedicated, skilled, and enthusiastic teachers instill in students the passion for learning and selfmotivation which will lead them to achieve excellence in all their future endeavors.
Challenge
We believe that a rigorous academic environment is necessary to help students develop the ability to persevere and overcome the great challenges of today’s demanding global environment.
Integrity:
A) Community Involvement
We believe that community involvement will teach students to understand the real world and the value of making positive contributions to society on all levels through volunteerism and education.
B) Moral Responsibility
We believe that it is the moral responsibility of all humankind to develop a sense of judgment that will enable them to use their knowledge and power to oppose suffering and to benefit all of humanity
Diversity
We believe that a welcoming of diversity, the pursuit of common ground, and the willingness to listen to differing ideas for the sake of understanding are the primary requirements for peaceful progress and prosperity in the multicultural world.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Pioneer Academy provides a broad range of educational services, for grades Pre-K to 12, including
artistic training, general education, and computer training in addition to traditional subject
teaching. Pioneer Academy is a residential institution where domestic & international boarding students
live on campus and actively participate in events/activities during after school hours and on
weekends. Living on campus not only offers extensive social and academic opportunities but
also allows students to make life-long friends from different parts of the world.
Additionally, Pioneer Summer Camp offers summer camps, which intended to provide students an academically and socially enriching experience over the summer months. The domestic student camp usually runs three weeks and is open to students entering grades 3 through 8, with student groups by grade. An international student camp offers a truly transformational and cross-cultural experience, that inspires
our campers to broaden their horizons. Our summer Camp creates a supportive, friendly, and
diverse environment where students immerse themselves in a new culture and language.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
Pioneer Academy has initiated the Pre-K program since the 2017-2018 academic year and the number of students has been increasing. The Academy started a Basketball program in 2019-2020 and enriched the program with NBA basketball player Tim Thomas in 2020-2021.

- We review compensation data across the organization (and by staff levels) to identify disparities by race.
- We ask team members to identify racial disparities in their programs and / or portfolios.
- We analyze disaggregated data and root causes of race disparities that impact the organization's programs, portfolios, and the populations served.
- We disaggregate data to adjust programming goals to keep pace with changing needs of the communities we support.
- We employ non-traditional ways of gathering feedback on programs and trainings, which may include interviews, roundtables, and external reviews with/by community stakeholders.
- We disaggregate data by demographics, including race, in every policy and program measured.
- We have long-term strategic plans and measurable goals for creating a culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
- We have a promotion process that anticipates and mitigates implicit and explicit biases about people of color serving in leadership positions.
- We seek individuals from various race backgrounds for board and executive director/CEO positions within our organization.
- We have community representation at the board level, either on the board itself or through a community advisory board.
- We help senior leadership understand how to be inclusive leaders with learning approaches that emphasize reflection, iteration, and adaptability.
- We measure and then disaggregate job satisfaction and retention data by race, function, level, and/or team.
- We engage everyone, from the board to staff levels of the organization, in race equity work and ensure that individuals understand their roles in creating culture such that one’s race identity has no influence on how they fare within the organization.
