Program 1

Tiros Site / TLM-18 Activation

Executive Overview

TLM-18 Reactivation Project

Introduction:

InfoAge, and the Ocean-Monmouth Amateur Radio Club (OMARC), with the assistance of volunteers from Princeton University have undertaken the re-activation and conversion of the former US Army TLM-18 telemetry antenna located on the InfoAge Campus.

Objectives:

To equip the TLM-18 with a computer controlled drive system, and the necessary feed horns and RF chain components to support the following sub-missions:

Pulsar research at 408 MHz

EME experimentation at 432 MHz

Hydrogen Line analysis at 1.42 GHz

Control and receiving equipment for NASA's CubeSat Launch initiative (CSLI)

Progress:

The TLM-18 has been freed from the “stowed” position and experimental rotation in azimuth has occurred under power. It has also been confirmed that the dish moves freely in elevation.

A small jib crane is being constructed to lower the elevation drive train to the ground, at which point it will be sent out for refurbishing.

Building 9116 has been equipped with the necessary IT infrastructure (servers, routers, computers, and cabling) to support the project, with material available to extend the network to building 9062.

Software (LabView) has been acquired to point the antenna via the USS / GPIB interfaces on the recommended drive controllers.

A feed horn, preamplifier, and software defined receiver for 1.42 GHz are in storage, pending initial installation.

Project Team:
Our project team includes professionals from various disciplines including: physicists, astronomers, RF designers, licensed professional engineers, embedded software developers, communications system installers, and DC drive system engineers.

Early Computing Museum

Executive Overview
Early Computing Museum
Mid-Atlantic Retro Computing Hobbyists (MARCH)  is a computer club whose members specialize in historic technology from the 1940s through 1980s.
MARCH' activities include operating a physical museum with a focus on restoring historic computers into working condition. The museum is co-located at the InfoAge Science Center, in Wall, New Jersey. The group also operates an e-mail discussion list and hosts public activities year-round, including an annual conference, quarterly technical sessions, and social events. MARCH formed at the end of 2004. The group has hundreds of mailing list members, and dozens of active participants, spread out from Hartford to Pittsburgh to Washington, D.C.,; everywhere between; and some beyond. All artifacts in our 3,000-square-foot secure storage facility were donated and prepared for conservation and restoration where applicable.
