Program 1

Medical Services

Planned Parenthood's medical services help maintain the health and well-being of communities today, and will be equally necessary tomorrow, for the next generation.  Everyone has access to our reproductive health care, regardless of their income, health insurance status, or "pre-existing condition."  We charge all patients according to an income-based sliding fee scale, participate in Medicaid and other government programs, and are committed to serving people with no health insurance at all.  Our Medical Centers offer an array of services, including contraception and supplies, annual gynecological exams, sexually transmitted diseas (STD) testing and treatment, pregnancy tests,  and testing for and treatment of cervical cancer.

Community Education

Planned Parenthood is committed to providing sexuality education to assure individuals have access to a full range of reproductive health care options and the information necessary to make responsible life-long decisions affecting family planning.  Our programs offer medically accurate, age-appropriate curriculum to teens and young adults in schools, churches, social agencies, and many other settings.

Advocacy

Planned Parenthood works with legislators to introduce bills or lobby for or against existing ones.  We educate and mobilize activists to speak out on reproductive rights issues.  We build coalitions with like-minded organizations to create a united front against attacks on the rights of women and families.

SPECTRUM

The SPECTRUM is a safe heaven in Reading, PA for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, or Questioning youth and their Allies (LGBTQA).  LGBTQ youth can be targets for harassment and discrimination in their schools, in their communities, and sometimes even in their own families.  The U.S. Department of Health and Healthy People 2010 show LGBTQ youth in the highest risk category for smoking, drugs, alcohol, teen pregnancy, suicide, homelessness, prostitution, depression, eating disorders, and failure in school.
