Program 1

Volunteer Mentors from area businesses are matched in February and October with high school sophomores selected by school counselors. Mentors commit for 1 year to spend a minimum of 8 hours per month in activities with their mentees. Foundation requires Mentees to set goals around community service, their education, career options and personal health and presents awards for goal achievements including lap top computers. Scholarships are awarded to mentees who complete the program through high school graduation. Major sources of funds are individual and company contributions, and annual events, including a golf tournament, The Rodman Ride for Kids, Computer Recycling and Mentor Recognition Dinner.

STATEMENT FROM THE Principal Officer

"The Mazie Mentoring Program has 2 unique features that add significantly to its effectiveness. One is the Goal and Goal Acievement Award Program and the second is its close collaboration with high school teachers and administrators (including in-school offices). Our long range plans focus on starting additional mentoring programs in needy eastern Massachusetts communities. We require $100,000 of seed money to start a new program, and $175,000 per year to grow and sustain a new program."
