The Literacy Council of Wake County matches adult learners with tutors who can assist with reading, writing and speaking skills. The Council conducts monthly workshops to train volunteer tutors in various alternative strategies tailored to meet the goals of adult learners with literacy needs. The Council provides continuous monitoring and support to tutors and learners. The Council maintains a computer lab and library and provides meeting facilities for tutors and learners.

BIO

Laura Walters, has served numerous leadership roles in nonprofit organizations for more than fifteen years. Walters is a graduate of the Duke University Nonprofit Management program in Durham, NC and also graduated from Leadership Triangle in Raleigh. Walters has expertise in leadership, development, strategic and financial planning, advocacy, program management, and public relations. She also brings a high level of energy and enthusiasm to the LCWC through her desire to increase literacy services and is committed to expanding the volunteer program through increased numbers of tutors so that more adults in need of help can be served in Wake County.
