Mission Statement

We work to preserve and celebrate local history by creating living history programs for adults and children, sponsoring salvage opportunities for vintage home owners, maintain photo and information archives of early local history, and maintain & preserve the Dr. Willella Howe-Waffle House and Medical Museum. The Dr. Howe-Waffle House was the home and office of one of Orange County's first female physicians -- a pioneer and inspiration to so many, and a God-send to her patients. We also operate the Santa Ana Fire Museum, which showcases Santa Ana firefighting history as well as firefighting history in general. The Santa Ana Fire Museum operates within a working fire station - Orange County Fire Authority Station 75, formerly Santa Ana Fire Station 5.

How does this organization make a difference?

Overview

Self-reported by organization

We continue to be one of the premiere historical societies in Orange County.  We maintain and offer the Dr. Howe-Waffle House for open houses and public tours. We have built a digital archive of vintage photos for viewing by the public.  We continue to use our website to provide an easily searchable reference for Santa Ana history - for adults and children.  We publish small history books to help give voices to local historians on topics that might not otherwise be published. We have won numerous awards, including the prestigious California State Governor's Award for our programs for our annual historical cemetery tour and for a unique coloring book for English and Spanish speaking children.

To protect the identity of individuals, we do not display sexual orientation or disability information for organizations with fewer than 15 staff.
