How does this organization make a difference?

Overview

Self-reported by organization

The Bellefonte Historical Railroad Society, through its various annual excursions, provides entertainment, shares the history of Centre County and its railroads, and builds a sense of community.  The excursions bring in thousands of visitors from outside the area each fall and winter which helps stimulate Centre County, PA's economy.  BHRS is in the process of restoring its historic caboose and snowplow which will eventually be made into a museum exhibit that showcases life on the railroad during its heyday.  The exhibit will increase the area's appeal as a tourist attraction and an educational destination for school groups, elderhostel groups and railfans.

Program 2

Historic Preservation

We own several historic pieces of rolling stock including two BUDD RDC self-powered passenger cars (1953 & 1962), a wooden caboose (1922) and snow plow (1900) on static display, and three speeder cars.  As part of our historic preservation efforts, we will be restoring the Budd RDC cars to expand our excursion service and our caboose and snowplow for educational opportunities.
