Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Community Engagement and Empowerment Programs
Organization programs target young people and community at large. They are designed to address issues of violence, health, education and family simply because of the community dynamic. Young people living in urban communities are more likely subject to communal forces contributing to higher HIV infections, more crime, increased school drop outs and other social issues. Various projects offer young people and community opportunities to connect, especially with local artist in resident, to create platforms, build relationships, expose talent and keep community alive and safer. Youth gain knowledge, skills and experience. Programs are arts based. However, we are able to address many issues including "hot topics" that communities are experiencing. The round tables bring conversation for solutions and empowerment through parent and youth engagement.
Education- "Are You Ready"
A program for Middle and High Schools students consisting of workshops, speakers and information separately designed for Middle and High School students that prepares groups for school experience. Example, middle school age youth receive information and resources to help prepare for high school experience and high school students receive resources to help prepare for college. In addition, we consult with professionals and experts in fields on health, finance, social issues and culture. Youth receive guide to financial aide, job opportunities and more. These readiness workshops will be held quarterly (total of 4 sessions) throughout the year.
Experience the Arts through Theater & Performing Program
Programs for novices and youth having some experience in theater and performing. Curriculum consists of 10 weeks training programs for youth 5-18 years old. Youth learn acting, choreography, vocal, scriptwriting and theater. The program culminates with a play production from original script written by students or professional. Additional workshops are included in acting, stage management and technology.
Arts in Action- On the Road to Camp
Educate and train youth on effective communications as it relates to arts and cultural. Program promotes various aspects of communication, with a focus on health issues such as STD's and HIV among teens. Middle school and high school youth are selected to participate. High school seniors will over see some parts of the curriculum along with college students. This will provide the younger children opportunity for training, mentoring and receipt of small stipend. The older students and college students will gain experience in their select career fields and program will be evaluated by professionals in the fields. All participants will be train on a film. The films are issues related movies that education and address burning youth issues such as HIV, STD's, bullying and relationships. It has a two fold mission. First, to offer youth opportunity to work in front of and behind the camera and earn stipends. Second, provide education and awareness to either cope with, prevent or address issues. Tannie Series consists of ten (10) power packed films produced over a 5 year period. Goal is to offer sustainable community ties, build economic base in the community, offer resources that improve youth skills and improve economic conditions. Production of independent feature film Now That You Know is in post production and scheduled for release in 2020.
ACE Award
This is an event that recognizes youth participation in our programs through participation, achievement or community service. Youth and community leaders are awarded the prestigious ACE (Accomplishment, Character and Excellence) Award for their organizational and community support during the year. We target youth who may benefit from the elegant dining experience. It is also an opportunity for parents to participate. Event include food, speaker and entertainment. Young people must maintain C+ Grade Point Average, Have good character as reported by parents, teachers and community leader. They must write a 100 word letter about their participation in America RAVES, school and church. Award is usually presented in June of each year. Winners receive: First Prize- $1,000 scholarship towards college tuition, Second Prize-$500 scholarship towards tuition or books and Third Prize- $100 cash. Other prized awarded consist of Ipads, laptops and gift cards.
Lovin Through Pain Christmas Experience
Annual Christmas event, in association with Toys for Tots, designed to help families in crisis during the Christmas Holidays. We promote giving back to the community by donating toys, food and clothes so that children will experience the joy of Christmas. Participants must complete Application and attend Christmas extravaganza to pick out gifts. Youth are provided toys and treats. Children and Parents come together to talk, hug and share love. Either prior to or immediately afterwards, young people have opportunity to attend theater, sports or movie to promote unity and have fun.
