Mission Statement

The Vision of the Minnesota Boys of '61 is to establish a memorial honoring those who defended the Union and the State of Minnesota during the years 1861-1866. This memorial will also provide a venue for educating the public about the role Minnesota played in this time period and the courage, dedication, sacrifice, and patriotism of her citizens.

Josias King Statute Restoration

In November 1903, the Soldiers and Sailors memorial monument was dedicated in St. Paul's Summit Park. Atop the monument, a statue of Josias R. King, the first volunteer for the Union cause in 1861.

One of the goals of our organization is to raise funds to restore and preserve the bronze statue of Josias R. King.
