ACCOMPLISHMENTS

I Know I Can (IKIC) expanded its Blueprint: College program to all five Columbus City School (CCS) regions this year. Including a series of session for 9th and 10th graders.

Twelve AmeriCorps members joined the IKIC staff to work in CCS middle schools and high schools. Increasing the staff allowed IKIC to reach more students through one-on-one advising, presentations, and workshops.

After awarding nine students the Founders’ Scholarship last year, the organization was elated to honor 10 CCS seniors this year. The scholarship awards exemplary students up to $40,000 over four years to cover unmet financial need for college.

IKIC has successfully expand I Know I Can Make the Most of my College Experience to five college campuses this academic year. The program aims to ensure students enter and finish college.

IKIC has expanded and developed the Save Smart program to allow Columbus City middle school students the opportunity to enroll and save money for college.

STATEMENT FROM THE Principal Officer

"In 1988, concerned community leaders, including members of the Columbus Board of Education and the Columbus City Schools' superintendent, recognized that students were not matriculating at the same rate as their counterparts in suburban and private schools. Thus, I Know I Can was created to help these students recognize their potential and realize they can succeed in college and in life. Today, I Know I Can continues to help Columbus students by motivating them to stay in school and pursue college; advising them how to apply to college and access financial aid; funding them with I Know I Can Grants; and retaining them once on campus. In fact, I Know I Can has served tens of thousands of Columbus students over the past 23 years. I Know I Can is the only college access program in Columbus, striving to change the lives of its city's at-risk youth through education. The program has already proven that it assists Columbus students in becoming community leaders. By maintaining a committed board of directors, I Know I Can will remain on the cutting edge of college access programming and positively shape and affect the Columbus community far into the future"
