Mission Statement

The mission of the Lambda Archives of San Diego (LASD) is to collect, preserve, and teach the history of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender people in the San Diego and Northern Baja California region. Although most of the collections date to post-1970, there are original materials dating back to the 1930s. History is best served by the records and cultural artifacts of those people who are directly involved in its events. Lambda Archives (founded as the Lesbian and Gay Archives of San Diego) has dedicated itself to preserving and interpreting this important historical record.

Board President

Ms. Maureen Steiner

Board Member

Mr. Charles Kaminski

BIO

Maureen Steiner has a “passion for preservation,” whether it be about people, places, or things. Maureen has served on the board of Save our Heritage Organization (SOHO) and was instrumental in saving the Western Metal Building, which is now the signature part of the downtown Ballpark. She also serves on the board of the San Diego Archaeological Center, which is the only official repository for San Diego County artifacts excavated from San Diego historic and prehistoric sites. Maureen’s own history also includes serving as the first open LGBT Chair of the San Diego County Democratic Party. She holds degrees in Anthropology and Law. Maureen’s greatest thrill, however, is to be married to Camille Davidson Daviste (Nov. 2, 2008). They are both involved in many LGBT organizations and political and cultural activities.
