Program 1

Establishment of Rwanda Trauma Relief Center(s)

The 1994 Rwandan Genocide killed 800,000 people in six weeks. Only recently has the population climbed to its pre-genocide level of about 10.5 million. Nearly 60% of this population was alive during this horrific event. Many have some degree of trauma, which impairs normal functioning.

The ATFT Foundation has sent therapist teams each summer for the past five years. We have trained many teachers, elders, ministers, etc in Thought Field Therapy which is easily learned and administered. Under the supervision and occasional assistance of our therapists, hundreds of Rwandan victims have been relieved of their traumas…nightmares, daymares, hopelessness, inability to relate to peers, inability to study, inability to move forward in their lives…cured!

A Trauma Relief Center, the Izere Center, has been established in Byumba, in the northwest district of Rwanda. There, part-time therapists are treating Rwandans year-round, the only requirement being to present themselves at the Center. This initiative is valuable not only in and of itself, but as it is successful, it will serve as a model for trauma relief in other areas in need around the globe.
