Mission Statement

The mission of Lakeside Legacy Foundation is to PRESERVE and PROTECT the Dole Mansion and Lakeside Arts Park for community use in a natural and historic setting. Our vision is to PROVIDE and FOSTER innovative arts education and a community destination that enriches the quality of life for those we serve.

Lakeside Legacy Foundation, which owns and operates the Dole Mansion and Lakeside Arts Park at the Dole, is located in Crystal Lake, Illinois, a suburban community approximately 40 miles northwest of Chicago. Lakeside Arts Park at the Dole is open to the public, serving patrons from across the local region and from across the nation who come to visit Crystal Lake, experience art in the award-winning galleries, take in a performance in 'the Listening Room' at the Dole, or attend a Signature Event. Artists from throughout the United States come to Lakeside Arts Park at the Dole to display their art work, participate in the annual Art Fair at the Dole, and perform in 'the Listening Room.' Locally, Lakeside Legacy Foundation serves residents from McHenry, Lake, Cook, Kane, DeKalb, Boone, and Winnebago counties in Illinois, as well as southern Wisconsin.

Signature Events

Lakeside Legacy Foundation hosts 3 Signature Events each year: Lakeside Festival at the Dole, Art Fair at the Dole, and Christmas at the Dole. Each Signature Event celebrates our community and welcomes the public to explore the grounds of the Dole Mansion and Lakeside Arts Park in a family-friendly, engaging atmosphere. Lakeside Legacy Foundation's Signature Events raise both funds and awareness for the year-round arts, cultural, and community programs at Lakeside Legacy Foundation.

First Friday at the Dole

Lakeside Legacy Foundation presents First Friday at the Dole, a monthly art show that is open to the public to celebrate the opening of exhibits in the Dole Gallery, Sage Gallery, and exhibition hallway. This community gathering is free to the public, and offers light fare, artist talks, meetings with the artists, and the opportunity to purchase original pieces of work.

'the Listening Room' at the Dole

'the Listening Room' at the Dole is a destination to be enjoyed by both the performer and the audience! This space has the intimacy of a house concert with the production value of a large performance venue. Performing artists engage audiences in the space throughout the year, and the room is also open for rentals and recitals. 'the Listening Room' at the Dole is a one-of-a-kind destination in McHenry County, and was voted the 2014 "Best Place to Listen to Live Music" by the Northwest Herald Readers' Choice Awards.

Chef's Kitchen Culinary Arts

Lakeside Legacy Foundation believes art extends beyond the eyes and ears to the tongue and stomach. Over the years, Lakeside Arts Park at the Dole's Culinary Arts program has grown rapidly. The Vestal Culinary Studio, renovated and dedicated in 2012, hosts the program and includes professional appliances, utensils, kitchen safety equipment, and preparation surfaces. Participants in the Culinary Arts program learn basic cooking skills, healthy recipes, pastry arts technique, and kitchen safety practices.

Ballroom Dance

In 2016, Lakeside Legacy Foundation introduced Ballroom Dance lessons for children and adults. Classes are open to participants ages 9-99 (broken out by age brackets 9-17 and 18+) and include lessons by professional dance instructors in ballroom dancing, waltz, foxtrot, salsa, swing, and rumba. Participants do not require previous experience or registration with a partner, though adult couples are encouraged to attend. Utilizing the beautiful Sage Gallery, participants learn about dance as an expressive art while participating in a physically and socially rewarding activity.

Corporate Enrichment

Businesses and nonprofit organizations are invited to enrich their teams or enhance customer relations with an unforgettable experience at Lakeside Arts Park at the Dole. Lakeside Arts Park at the Dole offers a variety of program types including Art, Cooking, Health & Wellness, and Personal Development. Boxed lunches, catering, or happy hour packages are also available. Artist Studios

Lakeside Legacy Foundation is home to over 20 resident Artist Partners with room to grow! Studio space at Lakeside Arts Park is available for rent to art educators and all creative arts professionals, both visual and performing. Studios provide a private and creative place for tenants to teach, create, and imagine. Artists enjoy the unique and scenic location and become part of the Lakeside Legacy Foundation community.
