Overview

Self-reported by organization

The Colonial Fox Theatre Foundation envisions a uniquely beautiful venue featuring local, regional, and national performers, films, and diverse cultural events. The theatre will collaborate with existing arts organizations offering an intimate concert space for our local performances and fine and performing arts workshops for all ages.

As a community gathering place, the theatre will host civic, cultural, and community organizations. The historic theatre will be a vibrant partner in the downtown community, nurturing economic growth and providing cultural opportunities that will attract an educated creative workforce.

In addition to presenting classic, documentary, foreign, and independent films, the theatre will anchor area festivals that celebrate our region’s history, cultural diversity, and our commitment to fulfilling a promising future.

STATEMENT FROM THE Principal Officer

"The Colonial Fox Theatre Foundation looks forward to providing enhanced opportunities for educational growth of our young children through innovative programming and interactive tours, which will bring the history of the theatre alive to young minds. At the same time, the CFT will reach out to senior citizens who are underserved in the area of downtown entertainment. The revival of the Colonial Fox Theatre will provide cultural opportunities that will encourage our diverse population to once again experience the downtown community and will bring audiences into southeast Kansas from our nearby neighbors, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Arkansas.

The Colonial Fox Theatre will protect the history of the area while providing programming and services that allow the next generation, the present generation, and the aging generation to continue the journey in this historical path and to rekindle their appreciation of preservation and our historical resources.

When the Colonial Fox Theatre reopens its doors, its adaptive reuse as a multi-purpose venue for professional and amateur artists – with feature theatrical performances, music concerts, independent/classic films, art exhibits, performing art workshops, and film and music festivals – will remain consistent with its historic function as an entertainment venue in southeast Kansas."
