Program 1

Nature preserve

Because the HA conserves 3100 acres of open space, natural areas, plant collections and gardens, it serves as a nature preserve as well as a display of gardens and cultivated plants. It is a museum of plants, containing 8,376 accessioned plants. HA implemented an annual testing program, selecting unusual plants to be distributed and tested. One of HAs recent accomplishments was increasing scientific knowledge through ongoing work which is shared with professionals and scientists around the world: nurserymen, landscape designers, botanists and other horticulturists.
