Overview

Self-reported by organization

Our vision is that all government teachers in India will receive the training and professional development that they need and that all students in rural India's public high schools will receive the same quality of education as their urban peers and will be equally competitive as applicants for jobs in India's new economy.

Charting Impact

Self-reported by organization

Five powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

  1. What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
We plan to offer between 50-100 college scholarships to rural girls across 12 states in India (total 600-1200 scholarships annually).
  2. What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Our strategy is to open small field offices in our target regions, employing local project managers (keeping more educated Indians in Tier III cities and surrounding towns/villages). Using these field offices, we will build strong relationships with local high school principals, our Scholars and their families, and local Influencers. we will utilize these relationships to build additional support programming for our Scholars (educational seminars about the college application process, exam preparation seminars, Scholar meet and greets, Alumni support & mentoring). Lastly, our field offices will enable us to conduct continual M&E on the effectiveness of our program.
  3. What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Executive Director has a graduate degree from Columbia University. She has been active with the organization since 2012 and has invested significant time working on the ground with the local Ground Team.

Lead Project Manager has his Masters of Social Work (MSW) from Tata Institute of Social Science-Mumbai. Previous experience with Government of Gujarat Tribal Department.

Assistant Project Manager has extensive experience as a college level instructor. He also belongs to a minority population that the Organization frequently works with.

Board of Directors is comprised of a diverse group of individuals who hold advanced degrees from some of the best schools in the United States. Board Members work in a variety of industries including finance, consulting, tech, and the medical and legal fields.
  4. How will they know if they are making progress?
To date we have a 92% retention rate in our scholarship program. Our Scholars are primarily in STEM programs ranging from nursing, chemistry, geology and pharmacy to commerce, economics and finance.
  5. What have and haven't they accomplished so far?
We currently offer 45 Scholarships in Gujarat, India. In 2016, we will offer 65. We have also entered phase two of our expansion into Rajasthan. Later this year we will begin phase one expansion into a third Indian state.
