Head of School

Eric Veteau

BIO

Mr. Veteau joined the Lycée community in fall 2015, and is committed to leading our school, in our new campus, with our mission and values at the forefront.

Mr. Veteau's personal educational philosophy echoes the Lycée's strategic goals of excellence in the classroom and differentiated instruction. In his own words, “I believe that each child is unique and possesses potential for which we as educators have the responsibility to unlock, nurture and develop…. Each student should benefit from an individual project for success at school which is built closely with their family and educational team." Mr. Veteau's goal of success for each child and recognition that each student is a unique learner strongly aligns with the Lycée's mission; in his own words, “I have a vision of a school where people learn to respect, accept, and embrace differences as the core of what makes life, day after day, so amazing." And nowhere better does that vision come to life than at the Lycée Français de Chicago.

Most recently, Mr. Veteau has served as Head of School for the Lycée Français de Shanghai, where he has held that position since 2012. Prior to that, Mr. Veteau was at the Lycée Rochambeau French International School in Washington D.C. from 2006-2012 and served as Head of School during his last three years there. Mr. Veteau also served in Senegal as Technical Advisor to the Cabinet of Senegalese Minister of Education from 2001-2006. Before that in France, he taught and served as Deputy Head of Middle and High Schools. His career began as a teacher in Mauritania after completing his formal training in France. Mr. Veteau has the skills and vision as an administrator, teacher and ambassador of the French educational system to lead the Lycée Français de Chicago to become one of the finest in the world.

STATEMENT FROM THE Head of School

"Excellence in Bilingual Education

The Lycée Français de Chicago has been providing a world-class education to American and international students since 1995. Beginning in pre-K and continuing through grade 12, our students thrive in a unique multicultural, dual-language learning environment where instruction is provided in French and English.

The Lycée's curricula culminates in world renowned diploma programs. Students can choose to follow either the French Baccalaureate or the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma program, both highly regarded for their rigor and strength in preparing students for university and beyond. The IB program is offered to students in grades 9–12.

Through the multilingual curriculum and international exposure, Lycée students become equipped to meet the challenges of an increasingly global world, whether they are pursuing college admission, competitive careers, or their life endeavors."
