How does this organization make a difference?

Overview

Self-reported by organization

We have yet to acheive a functional sense of harmonious balance.  Eating and living "Green," does not address all concerns associated with daily living.  Poverty is not conducive to living Green and ASC is also an advocacy organization for people.  Understanding of self and others only begins with the education & awareness of each person and radiates from there.  In one of our first Pilot videos the rippling of water is one good example.  Change and help must be consistent, lasting and reliable for people who have been traumatized for any reason to be able to become truly self-sufficient.

What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?

Program 1

Aim High It's KAVU! Klear Ahead Visibility Unlimited will supplement existing schools by providing teacher training, retreats, curriculum design for all academic subjects. We also provide workshops, internships for teachers & students, innovative student exchanges & other groundbreaking educational activities. Our initial experience with students is shipboard as we trailblazed fusing the needs of urban students at-risk with environmental/marine experiences to address environmental justice. We provide career options, are an international resource & help individual students & their families as the last link for any financial needs to further the students education. We also serve as advocates for students who are in need of non-traditional educational settings. We also explore our inner & outer environments providing counseling through music therapy & much more. We have an upstart program in California & will continue to serve in Chicago as we expand. We are seeking a dream team of people dedicated to young people, their families & communities.

Funding Needs

We need immediate help to save what is left of a library that a  few yrs ago would have cost $45,000.oo to replace.  The result of over 30 years of a hand-picked broad collection of books.     We need all hands on deck!  As a dedicated grassroots activist I have given much of my personal resources and life and can no longer do this without a sustaining income and all needed to do what I have a proven I can do on very very little.  People who appreciate independents who are devoted and perservering, please contact Malkah.

Principal Officer

Malkah Hegel Ed.D

BIO

Malkah Hegel is Aim For The Sun Consortium's founder. She responded to the social & ecological needs of urban youth and their communities starting in 1979, catalyzing international changes in education. She found similar challenges exist beyond city limits. Her ability to interact with youth of many backgrounds is based in formal education, life experience and a deep spirituality. A student's family challenges are often the cause of at-risk scenarios. If we help the family, we help the student. Malkah is a recognized leader in education and environmental/marine sciences. She does not have a doctorate, yet is considered to function at that level by relevant leaders who inspired her as a child.

STATEMENT FROM THE Principal Officer

"ASC is registered as a true 501 (c) 3, is also registered as a civic, community, low impact research, and Charitable Trust organization when we reach that point.   Often it can be $50.00 - $100.00 that can keep people from drowning after all available help has been sought.   We fill in the gaps left in the current system.   And have made environmental education history and will continue to do so when those who understand and have been looking for a truly down to Earth yet Green way learn of us and want to help."
