What we aim to solve
Southeastern North Carolina is home to tens of thousands of children, adults, and veterans living with disabilities. There are few existing programs to support the health, wellness, and quality of life of these individuals and their families.

The Miracle League of Wilmington
The Miracle League of Wilmington is an accessible baseball league filled with joy, dancing and home runs for children and adults living with disabilities; Ages 3+
All games are played at the Miracle Field located at 5510 Olsen Park Lane in Wilmington, NC. The specialized 33,000 square foot field is made of a flat, rubberized surface that is barrier free for all Miracle League All Stars!
The Miracle League of Wilmington hosts a Spring and Fall Season for 8 weeks with games scheduled on Saturdays. A Summer Season also begins in June.
Project SOAR
Project Sports, Outreach, Adapted Recreation, presented by ACCESS of Wilmington in partnership with the University of North Carolina Wilmington, is an adapted sport program offering archery, cycling, golf, kayaking, SCUBA, and surfing for veterans and active members of the Armed Forces living with service-connected illness or injury.
The mission of Project SOAR is to promote active sport participation among veterans and active members of the Armed Forces living with disabilities to increase their health, wellness, and quality of life. Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors all programming, including equipment loan program, are provided at no cost to participants and their families!
ACCESS Fit
ACCESS Fit is a year-round fitness and wellness program designed for young adults, adults, and older adults living with disabilities; ages 12+
ACCESS Fit features an adapted group exercise class held at the Miracle Field located at 5510 Olsen Park Lane in Wilmington, NC. The specialized 33,000 square foot field is made of a flat, rubberized surface that is barrier free for all participants!
ACCESS Fit is held for 12-weeks during the Spring, Fall, and Summer with 10 classes currently offered weekly to community members, Group Homes, and Day Programs in southeastern North Carolina. ACCESS Fit also features adaptive sports, such as archery and cycling, and extended summer program for all ages.

What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
ACCESS of Wilmington's goal is to provide accessible fitness, adaptive sports and recreation for children, adults, and veterans living with disabilities across southeastern North Carolina. We strive to eliminate barriers to physical activity and create community for 13,000 children, 10,000 veterans, and tens of thousands of adults living with disabilities in our community!
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The ACCESS of Wilmington Board of Directors will begin a new strategic planning process in 2019, as all strategic outcomes have now been met from the three-year strategy developed in 2015.
What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
Our organizational capacity has been greatly strengthened by the addition of key volunteers and staff in 2018. Additionally, capacity building best practices of collaboration and evaluation have been implemented by ACCESS of Wilmington. ACCESS of Wilmington has also established a Program Advisory Committee, in collaboration with the University of North Carolina Wilmington and local health care institutions, comprised of experts in a variety of related fields to achieve data driven program development.
What have they accomplished so far and what's next?
In 2018, ACCESS of Wilmington is celebrating 5 years of miracles! In 5 years, ACCESS has grown from serving 45 children and adults through 1 program to over 650 children, adults, older adults, and veterans through 3 programs.
