Mission Statement

YOUR GIFT CAN IMPACT CHILDREN The Grand Rapids Public Library Foundation believes no child should grow up without exposure to books or the chance to become literate. YOUR GIFT CAN IMPACT LITERACY The Grand Rapids Public Library Foundation believes in order to thrive and prosper all of us must be lifelong learners with access to knowledge and skills that can sustain our lives at work, at home, and in our communities. YOUR GIFT CAN ENHANCE AND EXPAND PROGRAMMING The Grand Rapids Public Library Foundation believes programming for adults and children enriches lives and encourages a lifelong desire to seek knowledge and experience culture. YOUR GIFT CAN SUPPORT NEW CAPITAL AND TECHNOLOGY PROJECTS The Grand Rapids Public Library Foundation believes that, while the Library's major building renovations have been met, ongoing capital improvements and technological enhancements will be needed to maintain the Library's position as a primary community resource for knowledge, information and entertainment. YOUR GIFT CAN EXPLORE AND DEVELOP GENERAL AND SPECIAL COLLECTIONS The Grand Rapids Public Library Foundation believes that individuals and groups nationwide turn to the Grand Rapids Public Library for its specialized collections. Since its inception in 1990, the Grand Rapids Public Library Foundation has raised over $14.5 million in support of the Grand Rapids Public Library. Our most ambitious project to date was to successfully raise $8.5 million in private donations to make the $31.5 million Grand Rapids Public Library capital project possible. This was the largest capital improvement project ever undertaken by a Michigan public library. Completed in early 2003, the project included three new and four renovated neighborhood branch locations and a newly renovated downtown Main Library. Following this, the Library Foundation embarked on building its endowment to focus on what happens inside the buildings: the Library's programs and services our citizens enjoy. The income generated from this endowment enables far more extensive and dynamic programming than is possible within the Library's operating budget.
