Mission Statement

GCHS accomplishes its mission by interpreting county history through programs (publications, exhibits, tours, special presentations, and the restoration of buildings, sites & trails, or any other program meeting Society policies; making the collections, publications, and activities available to public; assisting in recognition & appreciation of county historical resources; cooperating with other agencies in promotion of county historical resources; maintaining a broadly representative Board of Directors; serving as a cultural resource center; establishing and working within defined policies; & providing programs to sustain and develop GCHS.

Program 1

GCHS provides programs that educate and stimulate the county and the communities surrounding the community. The educational program D.A.S.H. (Developing Awareness of Students History) reaches fourth-sixth graders each year throughout the county in both private and public schools, as well as home-school groups. The Multicultural Day Camp helps elementary and middle-school age children learn to deal with diversity and to work together to build a better future. GCHS provides assistance and advice for smaller local historical agencies, promoting cooperation throughout the county.
