What we aim to solve
Our programs
What are the organization's current programs, how do they measure success, and who do the programs serve?
Therapeutic Riding
Therapeutic Riding uses equine-assisted activities for the purpose of contributing positively to cognitive, physical, emotional, and social well-being of people with disabilities. Because horseback riding rhythmically moves the rider’s body in a manner similar to a human gait, riders show improvement in flexibility, balance, muscle strength, sensory integration, fine and gross motor skills, sequencing, and much more.
Hippotherapy
Hippotherapy is a physical, occupational, or speech and language therapy treatment strategy that utilizes equine movement. Clients work with a PATH-certified instructor, a credentialed physical or occupational therapist, and volunteers in a 5:1 environment to accomplish targeted functional outcomes. The ultimate goal of Hippotherapy riders is to graduate into regular therapeutic riding classes.
Equine Assisted Learning
Equine Assisted Learning (EAL) is an experiential learning process that incorporates a horse in the growth and development of individuals. Since horses communicate non-verbally, they are wonderful teachers of how non-verbal communication impacts others. The horses respond quickly to changes in the client's behavior, offering constant feedback and timely rewards or consequences for the client's actions. EAL allows individuals to grow in communication, awareness, observation, focus, work ethic, self-esteem, and self-confidence. All activities are done on the ground with the supervision of a certified facilitator working to meet goals using various activities such as grooming, lunging, leading, and much more.
Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy
Equine Facilitated Psychotherapy (EFP) is a treatment approach that provides the client with opportunities to enhance self-awareness, and reflect upon patterns of thinking, behaving, and feeling. EFP is popular for psychotherapy clients who seem “stuck” in treatment, or as a reward for working hard, utilizing a multitude of activities including handling, grooming, and lunging. A team made up of a certified psychotherapist, an equine facilitator, and a horse or horses work with the clients.
