How does this organization make a difference?

Overview

Self-reported by organization

The COACT Education Foundation (CEF) has educated hundreds of concerned citizens on the socio-economic issues of (1) the cost efficiency of state single-payer universal health care delivery and (2) the environmental and socio-economic benefits of family dairy farms which are facing displacement by the vertical integration of non-farmer-owned, multi-thousand-cow dairy producers with non-farmer-owned processors.

Charting Impact

Self-reported by organization

Five powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

  1. What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
    1. An educated citizenry on the state's right, allowed in the waiver of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), that allows Minnesota to create its own single-payer universal health care delivery system which will provide affordable, comprehensive medical care and provider choice for all Minnesotans through cost efficiency.

    2. (a) An educated citizenry and consumer base on the community, environmental, and food safety benefits of family dairy production and (b) the democratic process of environmental review of the Citizens Board of the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency that allows citizen input on factory feedlot proposals in the community.
  2. What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
Educating concerned citizens on these issues with (1) one-on-one calls through our phone bank and member visits to small business owners and family farmers, and (2) town hall meetings with the collaboration of the Brainerd-area Rosenmeier Center, the Franciscan Sisters of Little Falls, the St. Cloud Diocese, and family farm, health care provider, and small business organizations.
  3. What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
    (1) A dedicated phone canvass of knowledgeable callers who, through their own life experiences, effectively inform and engage concerned citizens on these issues, which results in donations.

    (2) Active and knowledgeable board members who visit and inform main street business owners and farm families on these issues.

    (3) Long-standing working relationships with health care provider, small business, and family farm organizations which provide presenters and other informational resources.
  4. How will they know if they are making progress?
    (1) Citizens, business owners, and family farmers who understand and can articulate the cost efficiency of directly paying medical providers for health care rather than paying insurers which take precious premium dollars for profit and overhead without providing care.

    (2) Citizens, business owners, and family farmers who understand the public process of environmental review for voicing concerns over environmental and socio- economic threats to the community of factory feedlot and other industrial development proposals.
  5. What have and haven't they accomplished so far?
Informed hundreds of citizens, business owners, and family farmers on these issues and the public process which have enabled them to articulate their concerns to policy-makers and regulators and to provide reasons and documentation.
