The National Liberty Memorial

Liberty Fund DC is authorized by The United States Congress to construct a memorial and to develop interactive programs that will educate citizens about the African American Patriots contributions to America’s War for Independence; to demonstrate the Patriots influence on subsequent generations; and to inspire youth to the achievement of exemplary citizenship. Further, the Memorial will encourage genealogical and historical research to uncover connections between these long neglected Patriots and Americans from all backgrounds. See:

Companion bills Public Law 112-239 sponsored by Senators Joseph Lieberman (CT) and Charles Grassley (IA) in the Senate (S. 883), and by Representatives Donald Payne (N.J.) and Frank Wolf (VA) in the House (H.R. 2181.)

The National Liberty Memorial will honor African American contributions to national liberty in the War for Independence, and it is hoped that the Memorial will help to heal the long-festering wounds of slavery, segregation, and discrimination. Through this Memorial, Americans will learn how enduring are the principles that bind us together as a nation. Also, the Memorial will be designed in the idiom of the Patriots and of the Nation’s Founders; it will be compatible with the L’Enfant-Banneker Plan and the 1902 McMillan Plan for Washington, D.C.; it will feature a heroic statue of a Patriot or Patriots in the grand style; it will tell in visual narrative the experience of Africa Americans in The War for Independence; and, it will present in the architecture of the founding principles a setting for the memorial precinct.

Liberty Patriots; The Untold Story of American Independence is designed to educate school-children, retirees and all Americans in between on the history of African American contributions to national liberty in the War for Independence. The interactive web-site, book and videos will give succinct and entertaining biographies of Liberty Patriots, those African-Americans both slave and free who battled for personal, political, and national liberty in America’s War for Independence.
