Program 1

Parent University / Family Nights

Studies consistently show that students whose parents and families are involved in their education earn better grades, score higher on standardized tests, have better attendance records and show a more positive attitude toward school. WSF leads a community effort to help parents, caregivers, and extended family get more involved in their child’s education. This program has been piloted at select Waterloo schools offering a family meal, focused instruction on an academic subject for adult and children, and material to take home (math booklets, reading books, etc). We are raising money to continue to offer this program for as many students as possible.

Program 2

Innovative Teaching Grants

WSF awards outcome-based teacher grants based on their potential to improve academic achievement and critical thinking skills. These grants will give teachers the resources they may not have to pursue their ideas. The hopes of the WSF are that these grants will create more dynamic classrooms and students may become more engaged in learning. The Foundation has given over $80,000 in a three-year period to 23 Innovative Teaching Grant winners.

Program 3

Young Scholars

The purpose of the Young Scholars Grant is to promote excellent educational opportunities for students in the Waterloo Community School District. Grant funds support student projects, including regional and national competitions, so our students are well prepared to succeed in college, career and citizenship.
Because we want all of Waterloo’s motivated students to have equal opportunities for success, we’ve instituted the Young Scholars Fund.
