Mission Statement

We, as bereaved parents, grandparents and siblings help grieving families rebuild their lives following the death of a child. We provide grief education, emotional support, empathy, hope and healing for bereaved families. We accomplish this mission through talking about our own personal grief experiences (empathy), by serving as role models of successful grieving practices (hope and healing), and by reviewing and disseminating current research on grief and mourning (education).

We serve Dutchess, Ulster, Orange, Putnam and Columbia Counties in New York State

Monthly Grief Support Meetings

Self-help support group for members to talk about their grief, describe their feelings and experiences and discuss what is working for them and what is not. Grief-related topics are typically offered by a facilitator and current research articles are offered as handouts to inform and educate members about the grieving process.

A "think of you"card is mailed to every member on the birthday and death anniversary. This lets each member know in a very personal way that their child/sibling will never be forgotten.

Ongoing digital communication with bereaved families between meetings and special events to keep them informed of the calendar and to support each other when grief is overwhelming and they are having a bad day. Also as outreach to newly bereaved to invite and welcome them to our chapter and grief programs and helpful articles, poems, etc.

Kathy Corrigan is a married mother of 3, a retired school administrator and 12-year leader of Mid Hudson NY Chapter of Bereaved Parents of the USA

In June, 1995, her world and that of her family was turned upside down when their middle son/brother, Michael, died suddenly at the age of 21 from undiagnosed pancreatitis, while away at college.

Founding Mid Hudson Bereaved Parents of the USA has brought meaning to the senseless tragedy of her son's death.

Kathy works tirelessly to support the mission of Bereaved Parents of the USA: to help grieving parents, grandparents and siblings rebuild their lives after the death of a child.
