Program 3

Heart In Harmony™, Interactive Entertainment with a Purpose

The Hearts in Harmony Program is scheduled to be launched in May 2016. Our goal is to train musicians and purchase instruments so all those who desire to be of service in this way can succeed.

Hearts In Harmony™ is a program dedicated to enriching the lives of those living in residential care homes who are diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease or other Dementia disorders. This is done through music, kindness and gratitude. The primary focus is to bring social interaction and validation to those living in personal care and skilled nursing facilities. Simply stated, it is interactive entertainment with a purpose.

How is this done?

We want to provide groups with the tools and training necessary for understanding those with Alzheimer’s and Dementia disorders. Once learned, the group can volunteer at residential care facilities doing group activities that are fun while being socially, spiritually, emotionally and physically beneficial to the facility residents.

Why music?

(From Alzheimers.net) Music is understood to be a great way to break through to dementia patients, but do you know why? A new study shows us how music helps those suffering with Alzheimer’s disease. (click here for the original article)

Music has been known to affect those with dementia and Alzheimer’s, but why it has an effect on these patients has not always been clear – until now.

Music Helps Dementia Patients Recall Memories and Emotions.

A recent study shows that dementia and Alzheimer’s patients can recall memories and emotions and have enhanced mental performance after singing classic hits and show tunes from movies and musicals – a breakthrough in understanding how music affects those with dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Researchers determined the effect music has on dementia patients, by leading half of the participants through selected songs while the other half listened to the music being played. After the musical treatment, all participants took cognitive ability and life satisfaction tests. which showed how participants scored significantly better when being lead through songs, rather than only listening.

Here are five reasons why researchers believe music boosts brain activity:

1. Music evokes emotions that bring memories.

Music can evoke emotion in even the most advanced of Alzheimer’s patients. Neurologist, Oliver Sacks says that, “Music evokes emotion, and emotion can bring with it memory… it brings back the feeling of life when nothing else can.” By pairing music with every day activities, patients can develop a rhythm that helps them to the recall the memory of that activity, improving cognitive ability over time.”

2. Musical aptitude and appreciation are two of the last remaining abilities in dementia patients.

Linda Maguire, lead author on the study wrote, “Musical aptitude and music appreciation are two of the last remaining abilities in patients with Alzheimer’s.” Because these two abilities remain long after other abilities have passed, music is an excellent way to reach beyond the disease and reach the person.

3. Music can bring emotional and physical closeness.

In the later stages of dementia, patients often lose the ability to share emotions with caregivers. Through music, as long as they are ambulatory, they can often dance.

4. Singing is engaging.

The singing sessions in the study engaged more than just the brain and the area related to singing. As singing activated the left side of the brain, listening to music sparked activity in the right and watching the class activated visual areas of the brain. With so much of the brain being stimulated, the patients were exercising more mind power than usual.

5. Music can shift mood, manage stress and stimulate positive interactions.

The Alzheimer’s Foundation of America say that, “When used appropriately, music can shift mood, manage stress-induced agitation, stimulate positive interactions, facilitate cognitive function and coordinate motor movements.” This is because music requires little to no mental processing, so singing music does not require the cognitive function that is not present in most dementia patients.

There is no need to be a proficient musician. A song in your heart and a willingness to raise your voice with other resident seniors is all that is required for the music portion of the Hearts in Harmony Program

Transformational Business Leaders

Whether it be the corner grocery store or a Fortune 500 company, conscious business leaders have incredible power when it comes to opportunities for changing the way the global market conducts business and commerce. Everything from making widgets to equipment needed for space exploration is controlled by corporate Presidents, CEOs, CFOs and entrepreneurs.

What is a transformational business?

A Transformational Business is a community of individuals which – through products or services – aims to advance and raise the quality of the lives of a larger community.

Distinguishing Factors

The primary distinguishing factors between a traditional business and a transformational business are:

Intent
The primary goal of a transformational business is to advance and raise the quality of how we live on this planet.

Method
A transformational business applies methods of transformation aiming to forward meaning for its customers and the whole community it impacts.
Goals for the Business Department

To create, collect and share information and resources around the concept of oneness

To adapt perennial transformational tools from personal to organizational application

To provide transformational consultants and speakers to traditional businesses aiming to transform their goals and how they operate

To support transformational business leaders to become part of the community and offer opportunities and incentives for joining in creating new models for transformational business.

Information and Resources
We are working to collect a series of resources on transformational business.

Adapt Perennial Wisdom Tools for Organizational Use

We are currently in the process of investigating a variety of perennial wisdom tools to see how they can be applied in business settings. This approach was already tested in several business projects resulting in the design of program management templates, business model creation tools, and best practices approaches all based on applied humanity's shared oneness.

Consultants and Speakers
Grow our list of professional consultants and speakers who are versed in transformational business practices and who can reach out to businesses to determine interest in learning and exploring transformational business practices.

Transformational Leadership and Transformational Leaders

IFGT aims to provide a global network of individuals whose purpose is to experience personal transformation, master their own lives, and in some manner share their experience with humanity in order to uplift and transform consciousness and make our world a better place for all.

The goal is to support these individuals in creating businesses that fully reflect higher consciousness values.

Education, Creativity and Innovation

Have you ever asked yourself: In what area of your life are you really smart? What are you passionate about? What is your greatest strength? In general, each person possesses a unique individual passion and talent that are the building blocks for their success, happiness, and fulfillment. Education should provide a condition in which everyone can plant their individual passion and talent and harvest success, happiness, and self-actualization.

Science & Engineering Project

Today’s explosion of advancements in life-changing technologies – including 3D printing, nanotechnology, biotechnology, neurotechnology, information technology, artificial intelligence and automation – is having an immense affect upon society.

Led by Dr. Hassan Rashidi, a leader in the innovative use of science and technology, the goal of the Science & Engineering Project is to offer information, insights and educational material to youth about the basic skills needed to become conscious stewards of technology. It is our intention to develop stimulating conversations and activities that empower our youth to work toward using science and technology to improve quality of life, medicine and the environment in order to create a sustainable world and, ultimately, to aid in the upliftment of humanity

Application-based education (ABE)

Dr. Rashidi believes that application-based education (ABE), in which learners are exposed to real products, services, opportunities, and visions of existing academic disciplines (fields of education), is an approach that helps everyone discover their preferred field of study, along with their individual passion and talent. This discovery can initiate the ignition for developing the excitement and love of learning that is an important nourishment needed to flourish.

Practical Example

For example, science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) programs should be integrated into application-based education (ABE) to illustrate the real application of science, technology, engineering and mathematics in specific areas, in which learners are interested and choose to follow, rather than providing pure STEM education that generally makes them squeamish. This approach provides learners with the knowledge and skills required for the career that they seek.

The Science and Engineering Department will also create a presence in the local and global scientific communities to attract those working in the sciences. This group will:
• Create widely available science classes for children taught by experts in various scientific fields.
• Create a forum for the dissemination of reliable scientific information.
• Create discussion groups that integrate science and esoteric thought.
• Redesign our science and engineering webpages to offer a potentially global presence.
• Research science centered service projects. – This will give some indication as to the current state of science focused service projects in the world.
• Begin plans for a symposium in 2018, exploring the relationship between science and esoteric thought.

Funding Needs

The Institute For Global Transformation™ (IFGT) is committed to helping solve the challenges facing humanity and the planet. What will it take to create major changes in the way humanity operates socially, environmentally and economically? Our "Network for Transformational conversations" program is designed to build meaningful connections and relationships with individuals and organizations who are ready to support the momentous changes and opportunities for transformation that is occurring on a global scale. This program provides opportunities designed to enter into conscious, meaningful, and purposeful conversations in order to develop the necessary strategic thinking and practices needed to find solutions to local, national and global issues. Because all change begins within self, it also includes conversations on self-development aimed at transforming your life and at the same time, offering opportunities to be of service to humanity and the planet. In order to facilitate these conversations we need to build up our online presence. We are currently using our website (www.ifgt.org) , Facebook, and Twitter to promote IFGT. We also offer various classes and Meetups. Our plans includ offering online classes, videos and webinars. To fund this program we need to cover the following needs listed below. Currently all of our staff are volunteers. We need to formalize our approach by adding resources in order for us to grow and increase out presence in the global community.

President and Chairman of the Board

Dr. Maryann Miller

STATEMENT FROM THE President and Chairman of the Board

"The Institute For Global Transformation(TM) was founded to advance the evolution of  consciousness by promulgating the principles of the connectedness of all life. Consciousness is a radiatory effect of life and is everywhere equally present. Whether it is a sub-atomic particle, a person, or a galaxy, all living things radiate a field of awareness; it is simply a matter of degree.   When our consciousness is aligned with the underlying energy fields of the universe, we are able to connect with a higher frequencies of consciousness that allow us to shift awareness and create new paradigms that effect core changes in ourselves and humanity.  Each transformation in consciousness awakens inherent potential and empowers us to become agents for change within our selves, families, communities, and the planet. Together, we can make our world a better place for all."
