Mission Statement

River Keepers was formed in 1990 to be the voice of the Red River which runs between two cities, two counties, two states, and two federal districts. Through educational events and programs, we're working to change attitudes that the Red River is a valuable natural resource that should unite two cities instead of divide them.

River Keepers works with the cities and counties on issues that deal with the Red River. Some of our most public projects are: S.S. Ruby boat tours, Storm Drain Marking Program, hands-on educational youth activities, Race the Red canoe/kayak races, canoe/kayak rental, Red River of the North canoe trail, Lil' Fisherman's Derby & Clinic, an urban riparian demonstration site, Cavity Replacement Program (building, installing and maintaining wood duck houses and wren houses in the River corridor), and PowerPoint presentations.
