Charting impact
Four powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.
What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The great writer of history, David McCullough, noted that learning history teaches one gratitude and empathy. Through the AVC's public commemorations, educational events with students and future leaders, television programming, and digital oral history collection reaching millions of viewers, the AVC seeks to instill that sense of gratitude in current and future generations of Americans, along with the confidence to be generous with each other and aspire toward our nation's highest ideals.
What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
o accomplish this mission, the AVC employs wide-ranging programming that impacts mass audiences all the way down to individual students and future leaders. From a macro level, this includes the National Memorial Day Parade - the largest Memorial Day event in America, drawing some 300,000 spectators annually and televised to more than 100 million homes and sharing the story of American sacrifice for our first 250 years. It also includes the AVC's oral history preservation program, which has collected thousands of personal histories to date and is set to surpass 100 million views on our YouTube channel, watched largely by young Americans.
From a micro perspective, the AVC draws together hundreds of students from each of the military service academies & ROTC students every year, where they meet and learn from legends of history from the last 80 years, giving these future American leaders a greater appreciation of their own history as they begin their careers. By combining both mass and personal impact, the AVC plays a unique role in America's civic culture.
