Mission Statement

The Green Coast Foundation is a nonprofit research and education organization dedicated to accelerating the market for clean, renewable energy ("Green Energy") in California. California's shift towards Green Energy will help to clean the air, improve public health, reduce global warming, lessen our dependence on foreign oil and create high quality jobs. When all Californians can purchase clean, renewable electricity and alternative fuels at affordable prices, then we will have achieved our mission.

Program 1

The Green Coast Foundation achieves its goals through: (1) Superior Market Research: We use leading-edge quantitative market assessment tools to perform the most comprehensive market research about Californians' opinions on Green Energy, the Environment, and Public Health. We help policymakers, corporations, and stakeholders to better understand what Californians want with regard to alternative energy solutions. With this information in hand, stakeholders can craft better energy policies and develop green energy products that consumers actually want. (2) Educating Californians: We provide free access to some of the web's best energy-related news, analysis and tools. We educate all stakeholders - public sector, private sector, nonprofit interest groups, and the general public - about Californians' opinions, so that they can develop effective public policies that foster statewide use of Green Energy solutions.

BIO

Seth has nearly 15 years of experience in the renewable energy industry, the media industry, and the consumer products industry. Seth?s experience in the renewable energy industry includes projects to deploy photovoltaic panels, fuel cells, micro-turbine generators, anaerobic digesters, and cogeneration systems. He recently served on the team that developed California?s Hydrogen Highway Blueprint Plan; consulted for BP, Plc. on their hydrogen fuel strategy in California; and consulted for Environmental Power Corporation on both an analysis of California?s regulatory environment for anaerobic digesters and a dairy-industry risk assessment. Seth has also developed expertise about the Los Angeles-Long Beach port complex, which is the greatest single source of air pollution in the South Coast Air Quality Management District. In 2003, he worked with a team of UCLA researchers who examined emergency response preparedness against terrorist attacks at the port complex. Their report was widely circulated at all levels of government, and catalyzed the launch of the Riordan Institute for Urban Homeland Security (RIUHS). Since 2003, Seth has served as a Policy Consultant at RIUHS, and has co-authored two additional reports on LA-LB port security with UCLA Prof. Amy Zegart. Their second report, on governance challenges at the port complex, will be included in a volume on Port Security published by the Public Policy Institute of California (PPIC) in 2006. Seth also serves on the Area Maritime Security Subcommittee for Training & Exercises at the port complex. Seth?s first career was in the consumer software & media industry, where he worked for companies including Broderbund Software, MTV Networks/Nickelodeon, and LivePlanet. He later earned both a Master of Public Policy degree and an MBA from UCLA. Within his MBA studies, Seth completed a certificate program in Corporate Environmental Management at the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management at UCSB.
