FOL raises funds to enhance libraries and improve the lives of Montgomery County residents. FOL supports programs that encourage young people to read, help teens rediscover libraries, educate immigrants and low-income families how to access free public resources and promote lifelong learning among older adults. For example, FOL funds an annual Summer Reading program that attracts 25,000 school-age children to libraries. FOL funds staff development and volunteer recognition and helps libraries pilot new technologies, such as self-check out machines. FOL also operates two bookstores that offer free and reduced priced reading materials throughout diverse communities.
