Mission Statement

John Tyler Community College provides quality educational opportunities that inspire student success and community vitality. The College offers degrees and certificates, as well as non-credit workforce programs, that ready students for the workforce, prepare them for industry certifications, and help them advance their careers. John Tyler also works to support the ever-evolving workforce needs of the communities it serves. Its vision is a success story for every student. John Tyler Community College Foundation acquires vital resources that advance the College's mission. The Foundation seeks the time, talent, and financial support of alumni, individuals, businesses, civic groups, and elected officials in order to build relationships that ultimately help the College elevate the community's quality of life.

Founded in 1967, John Tyler Community College is the fifth largest of Virginia's 23 community colleges, and serves students with campuses in Chester and Midlothian; off-campus classrooms; and online courses. The College's service region includes the Cities of Colonial Heights, Hopewell and Petersburg, and the counties of Amelia, Charles City, Chesterfield, Dinwiddie, Prince George, Surry and Sussex. Over the years, John Tyler's programs have evolved to meet the educational, economic, and workforce needs of its diverse student population and service region.

For the current year, the primary goals of the John Tyler Community College Foundation are to increase annual giving, continue to support the Giving Trees on the Chester and Midlothian campuses, host another successful Full Moon Madness event to raise money for scholarships, and acheive a 10% increase in overall fundraising. Last year the Foundation completed a successful fundraising campaign for the renovation of a Biology Lab on the Chester campus.

Funding Needs

The Foundation's main focus is to support John Tyler students and we are always seeking funding for annual student scholarships ($2500-$5000), as well as endowed scholarships ($30,000 - $50,000).
