NIH MedlinePlus and Salud Magazines:
These publications, a collaboration between FNLM and NIH, provide practical
healthcare information for consumers. The Magazines increase the visibility of
the MedlinePlus website and provide reliable, up-to-date health information,
completely advertisement-free. Currently, up to 500,000 copies of each issue of
MedlinePlus are distributed to physicians’ offices and medical libraries
nationwide, members of Congress, and consumers. The magazine’s bilingual
version, MedlinePlus Salud, helps reach the Hispanic population.

 FNLM Conference:
FNLM and NLM co-host annual state-of-the-science conferences. The 2010
conference, The e-Patient: Digital and Genomic Technologies for Personalized
Health Care, was held on April 6-7 at the NIH campus. The conference
featured presentations by experts in the field and provided cross-cutting
perspectives from government, industry, health centers and research.

Minority Student Outreach Program:
FNLM provides support and programming for the Mentoring in Medicine program.
Mentoring in Medicine’s aims to diversify the healthcare workforce by
mentoring underrepresented students to health careers. The program prepares
high school students to become competitive applicants to and graduates from
health professional schools. The program provides several hundred minority
students with access to healthcare professionals, participation in medical
seminars and field trips to medical facilities.

Annual Awards Dinner:
The FNLM Awards Dinner is held each spring to recognize elected officials,
medical scientists, medical librarians and public figures who are demonstrated
leaders in increasing awareness and support of important health issues. The
2010 Annual Awards Dinner, Celebrating Leadership in Public Health and
Medicine, was held on May 11 in Washington, DC.
