Hispanic Youth Institute

The Hispanic College Fund educates and motivates high school students to overcome real and perceived barriers to college access.  Students join a regional network of college-going students and participate in region-specific programming that includes college and career workshops, connecting with local Hispanic college students and professionals, and cultivating a college-going culture in their communities.

HCF College and Career Institute

The College and Career Institute is a retention program that serves as a one stop resource center that provides college students with financial, social and career support that will reinforce on-time graduation, and ultimately lead to a cohort of successful Hispanic professionals. During the course of the academic year, accepted students will receive a scholarship ranging from $500 - $10,000, advisory phone calls once per term, and graduation cards upon completion of their degree.  In addition, students will participate in webinars on several topics, including: Time Management, Transitions (from high school to college, from undergraduate to postgraduate), Financial Literacy, Internships, Character Building, and Networking & Relationship Building.

HCF University Chapters

The HCF University Chapter takes a holistic, comprehensive approach to unifying all aspects and programs of the Hispanic College Fund. It unites all student participants, volunteers, leaders, and scholars of the Hispanic Youth Institute, HCF Scholarship Program, Hispanic Professionals Institute, and NASA MUST Project within each university.  The Chapter provides these students with the necessary skills and training to create, develop, and implement a variety of programming for their campus and community. Each Chapter continues building upon the strength and foundation of each of the HCF programs by focusing on the core components of Academic Success, Community Involvement, Professional Development, and Leadership Development in which these individuals become leaders both on campus and in their communities.

Funding Needs

We seek increased support from individual donors and corporate sponsors to increase the number of scholarships we award and to support the year-round services we offer students. The economy has affected most families, and Latino families in particular. We are working diligently to do more with less and depend more than ever on the kindness and generosity of our sponsors.

Mr. Carlos E. Santiago

BIO

Dr. Carlos Santiago joined the Hispanic College Fund in October 2010 as the Chief Executive Officer. Before joining HCF, Dr. Santiago served as the Chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee (UWM) and brings over 30 years of experience in public higher education. As Chancellor, Santiago was led over 3,700 faculty and staff, 30,000 students, and managed the university's half-billion-dollar budget. Santiago helped the institution increase enrollment by 12 percent, degrees granted by 12 percent, doctoral degrees available by 114 percent, research funds by 89 percent, established two new academic schools, and completed a record-setting campaign raising $125 million. Previously, Santiago served as provost and vice president for academic affairs at the University at Albany, State University of New York (SUNY) and functioned as the chief operating officer of the campus. Santiago also brings a wealth of expertise in economics with emphasis in labor economics. He was a professor of economics at UWM and holds a Ph.D. in economics from Cornell University. He is also the author or co-author of five books and has published dozens of articles and book reviews, of which many focus on economic development and the changing socioeconomic status of Latinos in the United States. Dr. Santiago is a native of Puerto Rico.
