Mission Statement

In addition to such resources as the Historical Society of DC, the Washingtoniana Collection of the DC Public Library and the City Archives, AOI members strive to preserve the oral history of the city through regularly monthly meetings where they reminisce and record their stories.

The AOI relies primarily on investment income and gifts from members. Small grants are awarded to institutions and individuals engaged in scholarly research pertinent to the history of the Nation's Capital. An annual $500 award is given to the highest academic achiever in Geo. Wash. University's Accelerated Masters of Tourism Administration in the name of past-president Dr. Phillip W. Ogilvie.
