Mission Statement

The National Association For Search And Rescue (NASAR) has been in existence since 1972. Originally started to represent the State Search and Rescue Coordinators, NASAR grew to represent all SAR volunteers and continues to support the State Search And Rescue Coordinators Committee (SSARCC). NASAR uses standards developed by ASTM, NFPA, DHS, FEMA, and other respected bodies to build education courseware, publications, and certifications. Government agencies and non-profit Search And Rescue Teams use NASAR's material and certifications to build credentialing programs for their organizations and produce highly skilled searchers that work within their communities and are available for mutual aid regionally and nationally. NASAR is a Virginia Non-Profit and Federal 501(C)3 which welcomes your donations to assist us in training searchers for your community.

Funding Needs

We are currently moving from a instructor led classroom delivery of our products to a online and blended learning environment. Licensing a Learning Management System (LMS) and developing the content for the courses will cost us over $210,000 over the next 3 years. This will provide greater flexibility for students, cheaper courses and better availability of our courses in untapped markets. Updating all our textbooks and providing them in an e-book format is important to us to remain relevant and to lower costs for students. This will cost approximately $40,000 per textbook for editing, updating and licensing of photos and illustrations. Update customer portal website. We need to push more services directly to our members and customers through a better designed website. This will cost us $10,000 to be professionally designed and programmed.
