Mission Statement

The Blackwater Creek Association was founded to serve as a key player in the preservation, promotion, and revitalization of Lynchburg's Blackwater Creek Watershed, specifically as it relates to the downtown area of the City. The Blackwater Creek Association coordinates and participates in a wide variety of activities that are designed to improve the natural and built environment of the area while educating the public about the rich cultural, historical, and natural resources located within the watershed.

BIO

W. Scott Smith, Vice President, is the co-founder of the Blackwater Creek Association. Scott is an active participant in conservation issues. He is a gubernatorial appointee to the Board of Trustees of the Virginia State Parks Foundation, serves on the Board of Directors of the James River Batteau Festival, and is a former officer of Skyline Chapter of Trout Unlimited. He enjoys fly fishing, canoeing, mountain biking, geocaching, and history.
