Metro Medical 2010 Campaign

CONSTRUCTION OF THE METRO MEDICAL CENTER

The Metro Medical Center is a two-story 20,000 square-foot facility featuring 10 consulting rooms with waiting areas for pediatric, internal medicine, and obstetrics and gynecology consultations; radiology room; pharmacy; laboratory; operation theater (for treatment of dehydration and other minor emergencies); 2 four-bed wards; and medical library. The construction project has been financed from non-Nigerian sources. Most of the funding has come from private U.S. donations, including monetary assistance from the Chester Rotary Club.

METRO MEDICAL CENTER 2010-2011 CAMPAIGN

Spearheaded by MRI, a capital campaign is underway to raise funds to equip the soon-to-open Metro Medical Center with vital medical equipment and supplies.  In addition, MRI is soliciting funds to support the medical center’s start-up operations. Health care services offered at the Metro Medical Center will be provided on a sliding fee scale. Contributions to the Metro Medical Center will ensure expanded access to quality health care services, despite the patient’s ability to pay.

Funding Needs

Every year MRI funds medical missions to medically under-served areas.  Many of the people served on these missions would never have received adequate treatment without MRI providing free health services to them.  Most stand in line for days in hopes of gaining access to our volunteer doctors.  Priority in treatment goes to the multitude of children suffering from facial deformities, such as cleft-lip and palate and to the many people suffering from extremely overgrown tumors, which appears to be an epidemic problem. Organizing and funding a medical mission is expensive.  Although doctors and nurses volunteer their time and even fly on their own dime to Africa, medical missions still contain program expenses of such things as: the cost of medical equipment, vaccines, medicines, bus travel from remote village to remove village, shipment of medical supplies, etc.
