Mission Statement

The mission of the Key West Art & Historical Society is to preserve the culture of the Florida Keys through exhibiting and displaying regional art, architecture and history for the purpose of educating the community and visiting public.

This exhibition focuses on the varied economic background of Key West that has transformed the island community for nearly two centuries. There will be particular emphasis on ‘Wrecking & Shipwrecks’, ‘Cigar Manufacturing’, ‘Transportation’, ‘Sponging’ and ‘Turtling’.

Key West Collects: Anything Goes - Exhibition

Taking inspiration from the famous Cole Porter musical, the Custom House will display a wide array of knickknacks, curios, ornaments, trinkets, baubles, tchotchkes and artwork owned by members of the local community. Their unique and quirky collections will be showcased alongside a narrative from the owners.

Tennessee Williams: The Playwright and the Painter - Exhibition

Chiefly known as a playwright, Tennessee Williams also had an artistic flair for painting. To mark the 30-year anniversary of his death, the Custom House will exhibit a number of Williams’ paintings revealing a different facet of his life and his talents.
