Program 1

School Field Trips

Our school program encourages interactive learning and takes a hands-on approach where students get to live a day in the life of a pioneer child: they write on slates in the schoolhouse, do laundry (with a washboard, tub and line to dry) in our turn of the century cottage and churn and eat their own butter or ice cream. The school tours are coordinated with the Manatee County Agricultural Museum & their programming about agriculture in Manatee County. It is as if the students experience two field trips in one! The trip is free to all schools & we are proud to be able to offer quality educational programming at no cost at a time when school budgets are very tight.

STATEMENT FROM THE Principal Officer

"The Palmetto Historical Park is a beautiful collection of historical buildings. The 1914 Carnegie Library, 1880 Post Office, 1920 Schoolhouse, 1900 Cottage, Heritage Chapel and Cypress House Military Museum offer an interesting and enjoyable opportunity to learn about our area's history. Through free community events, special exhibits, our very popular school tour program, and the Alice V. Myers Archive Center visitors get a glimpse into the lives of early settlers. Also located with the park, is the Manatee County Agricultural Museum. Our organizations work together to help our community build family memories and appreciate our local history. All of our activities are free-of-charge. As a lifelong resident of Palmetto, I'm very proud to be a part of Palmetto Historical Park."
