Mission Statement

The Brevard Symphony Youth Orchestra was established in 1984 by the Brevard Symphony Orchestra in collaboration with Brevard County Public Schools and Brevard Community College. Now in its 23rd season, the BSYO boasts 200 students representing over 70 public, private and home schools throughout Brevard County. The mission of the BSYO is to provide an exceptional musical experience for the youth of Brevard County, to promote growth, development and quality of musical experience through education; to encourage participation with the community and industry of Brevard and surrounding counties.

Program 1

This year the BSYO will reach over 5,000 individuals through student education, four major concert performances, chamber music ensembles and community outreach activities. We will directly serve 200 students in our three orchestras (beginning, intermediate and advanced level) and chamber ensembles, while our seasonal concert audience typically tops 3,000. Each year the BSYO sponsors a Season Kickoff intensive day-long educational retreat as well as an annual Concerto Competition.

Ms. Marti Upton

BIO

Marti Upon is an oboist and arts administrator with fifteen years experience in fundraising and non-profit management. Previously she worked as grant writer for the BSYO from 1998-2001. Ms. Upton received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Florida. Since then she has maintained an oboe studio in Virginia and Florida, served as double reed adjudicator for the Florida All-State Band and Brevard All-County Band, and worked as a woodwind clinician throughout Brevard and Indian River Counties.
