How does this organization make a difference?

Overview

Self-reported by organization

Family Scholar House continues to expand in housing capacity and services to meet the needs of disadvantaged families in our community by helping them transition from poverty, homelessness and domestic violence to self-sufficiency through education. Due to the growing demand for services, Family Scholar House is breaking ground in Summer 2010 for a second campus to be called Downtown Scholar House and designed to serve 54 additional residential families. Our growth is integral to our mission to end the cycle of poverty for families by giving single parents a chance to get the education that leads to career-track employment. Recent interest in our program as a best practice has led to the development of outreach programs in neighboring areas and an affiliate program to support organizations in other communities interested in replicating our model. We are pleased to share what we have learned from our experience while continuing this vital work in our own hometown.
