Mission Statement

Learning to Give: EDUCATES youth about philanthropy, the nonprofit and volunteer sector, and the importance of giving, their time, talent and treasure for the common good (knowledge), DEVELOPS philanthropic behavior and experience (skills), and, EMPOWERS youth to take voluntary citizen action for the common good in their classrooms, their lives and their communities (behavior). Learning to Give, the curriculum division of The LEAGUE, educates youth about the importance of philanthropy, the nonprofit sector, and civic engagement. The Learning to Give Web site offers over 1,200 K-12 lessons and educational resources for teachers, parents, youth workers, religious instructors and community leaders free of charge. The LEAGUE is a school and web-based system for service learning that builds character and empowers young people to ?do good? in their community, the nation and the world. The organization developed the country?s first standards-based classroom lessons that teach students the core subjects from a philanthropic perspective. Students learn about giving, service, responsibility, character and leadership in the classroom and practice it in the community (learning and doing).
