President

Dr. Eli I Capilouto

BIO

Dr. Eli Capilouto became the 12th President of the University of Kentucky on July 1, 2011.

Since his arrival, Dr. Capilouto has led a process to enrich UK’s academic experience by investing in priorities that maintain affordability and access; support the institution’s talented faculty and staff; and revitalize the living, learning and research facilities across campus. Under Dr. Capilouto’s leadership, the University of Kentucky – through an innovative public/private partnership – will add 12 residential facilities across campus; more than 5,700 beds and 202 active learning spaces by 2016.

Additionally, the University is self-financing five capital projects essential to its academic and financial future: A renovated and expanded Gatton College of Business and Economics, a new Academic Science Building, a renovated Commonwealth Stadium and Nutter Training Center, a new Student Center and the continuing expansion of Chandler Hospital. Additional campus projects include a new facility for the School of Art and Visual Studies and the College of Law. In total, the University of Kentucky is self-financing nearly $1 billion in the campus infrastructure.

Dr. Capilouto is committed to enhancing UK’s research enterprise and graduate education programs through high-quality partnerships, both domestic and international, and by recruiting and rewarding top scholars across the world. Recently, UK's Markey Cancer Center earned National Cancer Institute-designation (NCI); making it one of 22 universities with the trifecta of federal research awards: NCI, Clinical Translational Science Award (CTSA) and an Alzheimer's Disease Center.

Under his leadership, the $3.0 billion flagship university for the Commonwealth of Kentucky has gained significant momentum in fulfilling its multi-faceted mission of teaching, research, service and health care.

STATEMENT FROM THE President

"The University of Kentucky is a public, land-grant university dedicated to improving people's lives
through excellence in education, research and creative work, service and health care. As Kentucky's flagship
institution, the University plays a critical leadership role by promoting diversity, inclusion, economic development
and human well-being."
