Program 1

Scholarships

Post-secondary education scholarships for Collier County students seeking financial assistance. Each year, approximately 25 students from Collier County High Schools receive renewable annual scholarships of $2,000, helping them defray the cost of attending colleges, universities, vocational schools, and professional programs across the country. Scholarship grants are made for one year at a time. If the recipient maintains a 3.00 GPA, the grant is renewed each year until the student graduates from a two or four year college or university. It is the student's responsibility to inform The Founders Fund of their grades and enrollment status. During any school year, approximately 100 students are receiving scholarships from The Founders Fund. Scholarship candidates are recommended by their high school Guidance Counselors, after which members of The Founders Fund Board interview the candidates. Students are selected for scholarship grants based upon their overall high school record, including extracurricular activities, academic performance, and the financial need of the candidate.

Charting Impact

Self-reported by organization

Five powerful questions that require reflection about what really matters - results.

  1. What is the organization aiming to accomplish?
The Founders Fund goal is to raise the funds necessary to provide four-year renewable scholarships to students who have achieved academic success in high school and need financial aid for college.
  2. What are the organization's key strategies for making this happen?
The Founders Fund board is hands-on with fundraising, event planning and scholarship selection. We recruit board members who have a passion for helping local Collier County students gain a higher education. Each board member serves on a committee to accomplish our mission.
  3. What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
The members of the Club Pelican Bay have been very supportive of The Founders Fund golf tournament and have donated generously over the years. The Founders Fund fundraising event, the Golf Tournament/Dinner/Auction, is held every other year at the Club Pelican Bay. Golf and Social members of the Club, along with business sponsors, are solicited only every other year to support the event. This gives the Founders Fund a unique advantage for planning and for 'not' over soliciting our supporters. The next Founders Fund fundraising event April 9 and 10, 2018. The dinner and auction will be during evening of April 9 and the golf tournament will be held on April 10-both in 2018.
  4. How will they know if they are making progress?
When more funds are raised through our fundraising efforts, more students receive scholarships. Between 25 and 29 students receive 4-year renewable scholarships each year. The more money raised, the more scholarships are available.
  5. What have and haven't they accomplished so far?
The Founders Fund has set records with funds raised during the past two golf tournaments. The tournament is held every other year and has had greater sponsor participation which means more scholarships. More than 600 Collier County students have received four-year renewable scholarships since 1991.
