Program 1

Park Preservation and Interpretation

A first-rate Interpretive Center will include displays and history from prehistoric time to present, thus maintaining the heritage of all cultures at the confluence of the two great rivers ... the Kansas and Missouri. The center will include office space, a conference room and lecture hall bringing people to the water resource. The riverine ecosystem along with art will be an integrated part of the park. The WWII Normandy landing craft launch site will be memorialized. An amphitheater and stage was built in 2009. Events are coordinated with the city and board members are present at each event. Events include boat races, live music, lectures, U.S. sanctioned catfish tournaments, tours, outdoor classrooms, local school water quality studies, plays, weddings and other celebrations. Volunteer cleanup and maintenance operations are conducted throughout the year. A pedestrian connector will soon link Kansas City, Missouri, to the park via the Weatherby Bridge. In addition, we are working with the Unified Govt. to utilizing the top of the river levee as a bike path.
