Mission Statement

Established in 2004, the Institute for Education, Research, and Scholarships (IFERS) is a California-based, 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity organization dedicated to improving society by providing resources to high achieving students, scientific researchers, community nonprofits, and educational organizations for more than 10 years. We are all volunteers who believe in changing the world for the better through education, research, and scholarships.

    Education: Education is the key to improving society and advancing humanity.
    Research: Scientific, social, educational, and medical research are essential.
    Scholarships: Scholarship programs are important to help students to succeed.

    Education: We run an internship program, publish books, and support educational magazines and conferences.
    Research: We are actively involved in scientific, social, educational, and medical research to benefit humanity at large.
    Scholarships: We offer scholarship programs to high-achieving students in selected fields.
  3. What are the organization's capabilities for doing this?
    Education: We serve on many educational advisory boards including Digital Hollywood and The High School Music Company.
    Research: We work with international researchers on cybersecurity and other research areas.
    Scholarships: We have support from internationally renowned philanthropists.
  4. How will they know if they are making progress?
    Education: We have received excellent feedback from scholars, students, and interns.
    Research: We have made tremendous progress in cybersecurity research.
    Scholarships: We have helped some needy students to succeed.
  5. What have and haven't they accomplished so far?
    Education: We have published 12 books so far and 7 more books are forthcoming in 2015-2016. We have placed 200+ interns so far and more new interns in 2015-2016.
    Research: Our research team DESCARTES was ranked #7 in the DARPA Cyber Grand Challenge Scored Event 2 in April 2015. We are making more progress in cybersecurity research in 2015-2016.
    Scholarships: We have offered a few scholarships to needy students. We look forward to giving more scholarships in 2015-2016.

Newton Lee is an accomplished author, adjunct professor at Woodbury University, editor-in-chief of ACM Computers in Entertainment, former Disney producer/engineer, and former Bell Labs researcher. His academic books are in more than 2,400 library holdings worldwide. He has been honored with a Michigan Leading Edge Technologies Award, two community development awards from the California Junior Chamber of Commerce, and four volunteer project leadership awards from The Walt Disney Company.
