The Objectives and Purposes of the Friends are to maintain an association of persons interested in books and libraries, to focus public attention on library services, facilities, and the needs of the Metropolitan Library System, and to stimulate gifts of materials to the Metropolitan Library System including books, magazines, desirable collections, endowments, grant bequests, and other support as prescribed by the association.

The Metropolitan Library System is composed of 14 large, full-service libraries located conveniently throughout Oklahoma County, and five smaller extension libraries, four of which are located in the eastern part of the county in the cities of Harrah, Jones, Luther, and Nicoma Park.

Annual Book Sale

The Friends Annual Book Sale is held at the Oklahoma Expo Hall located on the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds in Oklahoma City. The Sale takes place during last full weekend of February each year and begins on Friday with a Members-Only pre-sale event and is open to the General Public on Saturday and Sunday. Hundreds of thousands of books, magazines, audio and videos are sold over a three-day span with prices ranging $0.50-$1.00 in the General Area and $2.00+ in the Collector's Choice Area. On average, the Friends net between $225,000-$250,000 during Book Sale weekend, making this their largest fundraiser of the year.
