Self-defense and safety awareness trainings were conducted for more than 5,000 girls and women during 2013. Communication continuues with colleges, high schools, junior high schools, community organizations and corporations who request the training for their organization. T.A.K.E. Defense has been recognized with many regional and national awards recognizing its contribution to enhancing personal safety for girls and women. Notably the highest award came in 2011 when Roger Kemp was nominated, along with 6,000 other American citizens for the Presidential Citizens Medal. Mr. Kemp was one of only 13 Americans to travel to Washington D.C. to receive the award from our President. Our goal for 2014/2015: To exceed the number of girls and women trained in 2013.Develop a Kansas City Metro wide high school tour conducting the class for high school girls in 2015.Identify local partners to assist in the funding of classes where donations by communities and or participants are impossible due to economic pressures.

Program 1

T.A.K.E. Defense

T.A.K.E. Defense Training provides girls and women of all ages with unique safety awareness and hands-on self-defense training. T.A.K.E. Defense believes every girl and women deserves to know how to protect themselves. The actual T.A.K.E. Defense training, takes place in a two-hour session held at a variety of facilities. When participants attend a class, they receive priceless awareness education and practical application of the skills demonstrated and learned in the session. It's our goal to give women the advantage if they're ever in a situation that makes them question their safety. We want participants to understand they have the skills to protect themselves first and foremost and to be proactive with their personal safety so as to not find themselves in a bad situation.

BIO

Roger Kemp began his business career in 1973 as a self-employed manufactures' rep and entrepreneur. He has invented, brought to market and sold numerous pieces of equipment associated with the plastic extrusion industry. Roger Kemp worked tirelessly to bring his daughter's murderer to justice, and during that struggle, with the help of Bob Fessler at Lamar Advertising created a billboard campaign which posts criminals pictures on billboards. The successful law enforcement tool has been adopted by agencies across the United States, including the F.B.I. To this day these billboards continue to be used and have apprehended hundreds of murderers making our streets safer. The Kemp's founded The Ali Kemp Educational Foundation shortly after they lost Ali and then fostered the creation of its critically acclaimed program T.A.K.E. Defense in 2004. Mr. Kemp is a past board member of the Ad Hoc Commission Against Crime, which focuses on the inner city of Kansas City, and a past committee member of three administrations of the Kansas Attorney General who reviewed and awarded grants to shelters and homes for victims of child and sexual abuse. Currently Roger focused his efforts to continue to build The Ali Kemp Educational Foundation and the T.A.K.E. Defense program which reached an unprecedented 50,000 girls and women ranging from 12 to 90 years of age in 2013. John Walsh of America's Most Wanted had this to say about the Kemps in his forward in the book Ali Was Here: ""Kathy and Roger didn't let Ali's killer claim another victim. They took their hurt and anger and turned it into something positive and helpful to others."" Mr. Kemp was the Presidential Citizen's Award recipient in 2011. He was nominated by two U.S. Senators from Kansas and what is a little known fact Mr. Kemp was one of over 6,000 nominees from across the United States. When chosen for the second highest civilian award given by our President, Mr. Kemp was one of only 13 Americans selected. He was recognized in Washington, D.C. by President Obama along with Ali's Mother Kathy and their two sons Tyler and Drew.

STATEMENT FROM THE Principal Officer

"The T.A.K.E. Defense program is offered at low or no cost to participants and is taught by highly qualified self defense experts. We enjoy relationships with schools, colleges and universities, and city and county governments. These relationships afford us the opportunity to bring our potentially life-saving skills to a broad audience in many different communities. Most of these programs range in class size from 100 to 125 participants. We also have the opportunity to train women in some very large settings. An example is, in 2009 we trained more than 1,001women on the playing field at Kansas City Royals stadium and continue to host these classes each year. T.A.K.E. Defense is unique because of: Ali's compelling story and her actively engaged parents. Our non-profit status which eliminates the profit motive and increases credibility.A well established name and program locally, regionally, and nationally."
