Classroom Grants

MEF classroom grants are awarded to MISD teachers or staff to fund innovative new programs that may test a pilot project, try a new technique, or involve students in a program outside the normal curriculum to enhance the classroom experience. This program is largely funded by the more than 1,000 MISD staff members who contribute to MEF via payroll deduction as well as private donors.

Professional Development

Any MISD employee can apply for a grant for a workshop, seminar, guest speaker or other professional development opportunity that will enhance the staff member’s skills to directly impact students in his or her current position. This program is also funded by MISD staff members through payroll deduction, as well as by private donors.

Scholarships

MEF awarded more than $432,000 to McKinney graduates in 2015, and more than 400 students are currently receiving financial assistance from an MEF scholarship. The organization is focused on developing permanently endowed scholarship funds to create ongoing funding. Today, MEF manages approximately 90 endowed funds that will provide scholarships for generations to come. Annual scholarships are also provided on a year-to-year basis.

MEF Higher Education Campus Advisors

MEF Advisors are higher education admissions specialists inside each of the McKinney high schools. The advisor program is a huge success and has helped secure more than $100 million in financial assistance since 2004. The advisors are partnered with a high school and remain on the campus throughout the school year. Advisors are available to meet with students and parents before, during and after school. Advisors help families with their financial aid, college application process, and scholarship applications.
